Guess what? The library is still the place to be. Even though there is a lot of information that can be found on the internet, there is still so much more that can be found at the library. Yes, libraries do have websites and digital media, but they also still have plenty of resources that you won’t find on the computer. Besides, sometimes you still need the feel of an actual book in your hands and the pleasure of turning the pages as you read or research—or a real person to talk to when you need help finding what you need.
Writers can find a treasure trove of resources at the library. Not only can you do the research you need to complete your latest novel, but you can also find resources on the process of writing itself. It also pays to get to know your local librarians—they will be some of your strongest supporters as you work toward getting your book published and will spread the word once it’s out there for the world to read. And don’t forget about the writers groups that meet at the library as well.
So take some time to celebrate Library Lovers Month, and be sure to thank the librarians for all that they do. Just remember the words of author Anne Herbert, “Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries.” Let your library know how much you support them!
