I know one author that has 100% of his title’s income donated to a local single mom battling cancer to offset costs for treatment and daily living expenses. This is an amazing act by both the author and the recipient!
I have an adult coloring book published in which I used the stained-glass windows from my local church as inspiration. Half of all proceeds from sales goes to a local homeless shelter. It’s not much but it is a continuous stream of income for this charitable organization. You can see the title on Amazon and other online sellers. Marketing your intention to share royalties or stating that fact directly on the cover or in the front matter can increase sales to make the donation amounts even larger!
Donation of your published works can also help people physically and mentally.
Consider providing books with an inspirational message to those in homeless or transient shelters. Your stories can remove the struggles of daily life and create a more utopian, calm environment for the reader going through a difficult period. These books can also give those struggling with emotional issues the strength to continue their fight. The elderly in nursing homes cannot always purchase or can receive new titles so your works can help their minds stay focused and strong.
Consider providing your books, at no cost, for fundraising activities to organizations and clubs for their philanthropic events. The sale or raffle of your item can be put towards good use.
While there can be loss of income to your business, in some cases there are tax advantages to accompany your emotional gains.
